Metin2 skill system: how skill points, books, and resets actually work

Metin2's skill system is one of the most important mechanics to understand early. Your skill allocation defines your playstyle, your damage output, and your survivability. This guide covers how skill points work, what skill books do, and how to reset if you make a mistake.

How skill points work

You receive your first skill points at Level 5 through the quest called "Training." This quest gives you 4 points immediately and locks in your class path. From Level 6 onward, you gain exactly 1 point per level. Points are managed in the Skills window, where you allocate them to individual abilities.

Each class has two paths with six skills each. For example, the Warrior class has the Body Warrior path (offensive, focused on damage and area attacks) and the Mind Warrior path (defensive, focused on survivability and stuns). Once you have mastered counter skills, you can select a boost skill.

Skill levels and the 17-point rule

Skills level up as you allocate points to them. The key mechanic to understand is the 17-point rule:
  • Allocate a maximum of 17 points per skill to avoid misallocation.
  • The jump to Mastery level (M2 through M10) and Grandmaster level only happens from 17 points onward.
  • If a skill does not jump at 17 points, visit the Old Woman NPC again. She can retry immediately to avoid losing a point.
  • The jump at 17 points is not guaranteed. It may take multiple attempts.
Skill books: the second way to level skills

Skill books are a separate method to improve your skills. Key points:
  • You can read all skill books in parallel on a 24-hour cycle.
  • To skip the 24-hour cooldown, use an Exorcism Scroll.
  • Certain items can further enhance skill effectiveness.
  • Reading books daily significantly accelerates skill progress without spending real money.
In practice, read your books once every 24 hours. If you are consistent, you can progress your skills without spending Yang on resets or premium items.

Resetting skills

If you misallocate your points or want to switch paths, you can reset all skill points with the Old Woman NPC in-game. This is possible up to and including Level 30 for a Yang fee.

The reset cost formula is: 20,000 Yang + (Level - 5) x 2,000 Yang.
  • Level 5: 20,000 Yang
  • Level 10: 30,000 Yang
  • Level 20: 50,000 Yang
  • Level 30: 70,000 Yang
When you reset, you get all regularly allocated points back. However, you lose points earned from reaching Mastery levels (M2 through M10) and Grandmaster level. Plan your build early to avoid expensive resets.

Practical tips for skill allocation
  • Choose your path early. The Training quest at Level 5 locks it in. Research which playstyle suits you before committing.
  • Assign frequently used skills to hotkeys. Use keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F4 for skills you use often. This saves valuable seconds in combat.
  • Do not exceed 17 points per skill. This is the misallocation threshold. Stay at or below 17 to keep your options open.
  • Read skill books daily. The 24-hour cooldown runs automatically. Use it consistently.
  • Only reset when necessary. Until Level 30 it is relatively cheap, but you lose Mastery-level points. Think before you reset.
