Metin2 Lycan Guide: The Fifth Class, INT Scaling, Skill Order, and Why the Mount Decides Everything
The Lycan is Metin2's fifth playable class, released by Gameforge in 2014. It is male-only, uses paired claw weapons, and has one subclass path: Instinct. The class was controversial at launch because claws introduced a new damage channel that existing armor could not resist. Years later, the Lycan remains a top-tier PvE choice and a niche but viable PvP pick.
This guide covers stat allocation, skill order, playstyle, and gear priorities.
Class Basics
The most common mistake new Lycan players make is stacking STR. The class identity skill, Crimson Wolf Soul, scales primarily off INT. Auto-attacks benefit from STR and DEX, but the damage that matters, Metin Stone breaks and PvP burst windows, comes from skill damage, and skill damage rides on INT.[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
Skills and Build Order
The Lycan skill roster:[[2]](https://en-wiki.metin2.gameforge.com/index.php/Lycan)[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
The Lycan is built around its mount. On a horse, the class stacks charge damage, Wolf Pounce, and Crimson Wolf Soul into a one-shot burst window. Off a horse, in dungeons that disable mounts (Hydra, Ship Defense, upper Meley's Lair, Demon Tower top, several boss raids), the class loses most of its damage ceiling.[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
Weapon path: Green Wolf Fang at level 80 to 90 as the rush weapon, then Kyanite Claw (105 to 115), then Serpent Claw (120), then Moonshine Claw at Champion 6.[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
For soul stones, Lycan benefits most from Red stones (attack value) and Blue stones (defense), with Rainbow stones to push skill damage further.
PvP Matchups
On official Gameforge servers: yes. The class is free, PvE clear speed is still top-tier, and the launch-era balance complaints were addressed via a damage reduction patch and follow-up tweaks. On private servers: it depends. Most pservers do not include Lycan at all. The ones that do usually rebalance it heavily. Check the server's class list and balance changelog before committing.[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)

Class Basics
- Released: 2014, patch 14.11 on official Gameforge servers.[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
- Gender: male only.
- Weapon: paired claws (gauntlet-claws), a distinct weapon category from swords, bells, fans, daggers, and bows.
- Subclass: Instinct only. There is no branching path.
- Defensive bonus: claw defense, a new pool introduced with the class.
- PvE build: INT, then VIT, then DEX, then STR.
- PvP build: INT and VIT equal priority, then DEX, then STR.
- Physical claw build (private servers only): STR or DEX first, then VIT, then INT. Only use this if your server documents INT scaling being removed from Crimson Wolf Soul.
Skills and Build Order
The Lycan skill roster:[[2]](https://en-wiki.metin2.gameforge.com/index.php/Lycan)[[1]](https://metin2pserver.net/Metin2-Lycan)
- Crimson Wolf Soul: identity skill. Massive attack-value boost that ignores armor. Scales off INT. Push to M1 first, then G1 as soon as possible.
- Shred: frontal hit with bleeding chance. Main single-target finisher.
- Wolf Pounce: AoE leap attack. Primary mobility tool and PvE clear skill.
- Wolf's Breath: wind attack that cannot be escaped. Can stun or knock out. Core PvP crowd control.
- Wolf's Claw: debuff that reduces enemy defense and movement speed. Setup skill before Shred.
- Indigo Wolf Soul: group buff that adds attack speed and evasion to nearby party members.
- Counter Skill: passive damage reduction with nine variants.
- Wolf's Breath Boost: passive that enhances Wolf's Breath. Requires Counter Skill at P first.
- Claw Storm: spiral spin AoE. Requires Champion Level 1 or higher.
- Crimson Wolf Soul to M1 before anything else.
- Shred to M1.
- Wolf Pounce to M1.
- Crimson Wolf Soul to G1.
- Shred to G1.
- Wolf Pounce to G1 for PvE, or Wolf's Breath to G for PvP.
- Indigo Wolf Soul at P or M1 unless you party-grind regularly.

- Strong mounted: open-world PvP, castle sieges, capture-the-flag. Highest attack-value ceiling in the game even after the nerf. Arrow-avoidance bonus makes mounted charges into ranged groups safer than the same play on a Warrior.
- Weak unmounted: dungeons and raids that disable mounts. No teleport, no stealth, no dash. Wolf Pounce is the only closer and it has a windup. A Ninja or kiting Sura who knows the matchup will kite you all day.
- Vs Body Warrior: they can stun during Crimson Wolf Soul's cast time, which fizzles your buff. Bait the stun first, then commit.
- Vs Sura: Black magic and weapon Suras can out-burst or out-sustain you depending on build. Wolf's Breath at G is essential to interrupt their casting.
- Vs Shaman: their heals and buffs negate your burst pattern. If you cannot kill through the heal window, you lose the trade. Bring Wolf's Breath to interrupt.
- Vs Ninja: they kite you. Wolf Pounce is your only gap closer, and it is predictable. Bait their evasion skills before committing.
