Quick summary

Metin2 has two systems that both read like "set" bonuses, and they work differently. A set effect is a permanent buff baked into an item when you upgrade it at a Setsmith. A set bonus is a temporary bonus from wearing specific items at the same time. Both can be active together.

Set effects

You upgrade a weapon, armour or helmet to a new stage using one of the Setsmiths located in Harbour: Holy Setsmith, Glorious Setsmith, Chivalric Setsmith, Royal Setsmith and Majestic Setsmith. The set effect works as a passive buff and is present when you wear the item.

The five set effects and their values:
  • Holy: 2 items give Max. HP +500 and EXP +5%; 3 items give Max. HP +1500 and EXP +15%.
  • Glorious: 2 items give Max. HP +500 and movement speed +3%; 3 items give Max. HP +1500 and movement speed +7%.
  • Chivalric: 2 items give Max. HP +500 and Strength against monsters +1%; 3 items give Max. HP +1500 and Strength against monsters +5%.
  • Royal: 3 items give Max. HP +2500, Magic/melee attack +10% and movement speed +5%.
  • Majestic: 3 items give Max. HP +3500, Magic/melee attack +15% and movement speed +7%.
The shards dropped in the Elemental Realm can be converted by the Warrior Statue, which is also in Harbour.

The rules that catch people out
  • The upgrade can fail. A Catalyst increases the crafting rate.
  • An item that receives a set effect gets a new name, but it can still be upgraded and bonussed like any other item.
  • Once an item has a set effect on it, it cannot be used to put another set effect on it.
  • You can remove a set effect using the Remove Set Effect item.
  • Receiving a set effect shows a status icon on your character.
Set bonuses

A set bonus is granted when you wear specific items at the same time, which can be 2 or up to 5 different items. The wiki treats it as a temporary bonus because the required items are usually time limited, so the bonus ends when they run out.

Using both at once

The wiki says the two systems are easy to confuse but are not the same thing. Both can work at the same time, and you can end up with two status icons showing at once.
