Metin2 botting and macros: what the rules ban, how the Cheat Blocker works, and what gets you banned

Quick Summary
  • The official Metin2 rules ban third party software that modifies the client or manipulates communication with the servers.
  • Macro keyboards and mice are not banned by themselves. Neither is using a VPN.
  • Account sharing is banned, and the account owner is responsible for whatever happens on the account.
  • The Cheat Blocker detects cheaters and files reports. It does not ban accounts automatically, and staff review the reports first.
  • Gameforge put the tool's raw accuracy at 99.9 percent and said reports are checked by hand before any ban is issued.
  • Detections outnumber bans by about ten to one, which is why bans arrive in waves.
  • If you share an account with someone who bots, your account can be banned even though you never ran anything.
What is actually banned

The clearest statement of the rule comes from the Metin2 Product Manager's own answers about the March 2020 ban wave, published on the official Metin2 board. Players who stick to the following, he wrote, have nothing to worry about:
  1. Read and follow the Community Guidelines and the Terms and Conditions, and stick to the rules of fair play.
  2. Do not share your login information with anyone.
  3. Do not use any third party software that modifies the client or actively manipulates the communication with the servers.
The Community Guidelines carry the same message in broader terms: every player should have the same chance to play that you have, and you should not prevent others from using the game's functions or interface.

Macros, VPNs and hardware

Three questions came up repeatedly during that ban wave, and the answers are useful because they separate what is banned from what is not.

Macro keyboards and mice: "No, we did not ban any accounts for only using macro keyboards and mouses." Using one is not the same as running a bot.

VPNs: "We did not ban any players for only using a VPN on their computer during the Cheat Blocker ban waves."

Public computers: if you play on a machine you do not own, check it for external software such as keyloggers before logging in. Forbidden software that is installed but not actively running should not get you banned for botting.

Closing the game or the Cheat Blocker process in the task manager does not create false positives, and the Kashmir bundle does not get flagged as the myshop hack.

How the Cheat Blocker decides

The tool does not ban on its own. It detects cheaters and produces reports, and Gameforge staff review that data before acting. Gameforge said the number of cheaters detected by the system was roughly ten times the number of accounts banned, and that not all of them are banned at once because the team wants to be certain there are no false positives.

Most professional botters run more than one account, so catching the majority of them takes several ban waves. That is also why a ban can arrive long after the offending behaviour: the violations are not tied to the date of the ban, and the reports are evaluated in batches.

Gameforge does not publish the evidence behind an individual ban. The reason given is that sharing too much of what the tool collects would let bot developers avoid detection in the future.

Account sharing

Account sharing is not allowed, and the account owner is responsible for what happens with it. If you share your account and the other person uses it to cheat, your account can be banned. The Product Manager also noted that if the two accounts sit on separate Gameforge accounts, a ban on one does not automatically follow to the other, but account sharing is still against the rules.

The Community Guidelines add a practical rule for anyone chasing support: account and item theft is only supported if you report it immediately, and support for warnings or suspensions is not provided for complaints older than one month.

A note on scope

Everything above is about the official Gameforge Metin2. Private servers write their own rules and run their own enforcement, but they ship the same client, so the same third party tools are the thing to watch for. If a private server claims its anti-cheat is different, that claim is worth testing rather than assuming.

FAQ

Q: Does using a macro keyboard get me banned?
A: Gameforge said it did not ban accounts for only using macro keyboards and mice. Running a bot is a different matter.

Q: Is a VPN allowed?
A: Gameforge said it did not ban players for only using a VPN during the Cheat Blocker ban waves.

Q: Can my account be banned for something that happened months ago?
A: Yes. Bans are not tied to the date of the ban, and reports are evaluated in batches.

Q: Will I be told what evidence was used against me?
A: No. Gameforge said it does not share the tool's collected data so that bot developers cannot learn to avoid detection.

Q: My friend cheated on my account. Am I banned?
A: If you shared the account, yes, you can be. Account sharing is not allowed and the owner is responsible.

Q: I play at an internet cafe. Am I at risk?
A: Check the machine for keyloggers and other external software before logging in. Software that is installed but not running should not trigger a botting ban.
