Metin2 Death Penalties: What Experience You Lose When You Die

Upon death in Metin2, your character can lose a portion of accumulated experience. The amount lost scales with your current level and the difficulty of the area where you died.

The Gameforge beginner's guide for Metin2 states that experience loss upon death is designed to encourage players to choose appropriate opponents and avoid fighting in areas where the level gap is too large. Players at higher levels lose more experience per death, and the penalty is proportionally greater in areas with stronger monsters.

To minimize experience loss, the guide recommends:
- Fighting monsters and opponents close to your character's level
- Using recovery items or returning to your body quickly (corpse retrieval)
- Forming parties, which may reduce individual experience loss
- Avoiding dangerous areas until your character is sufficiently geared and leveled

Some players also equip items or activate features that reduce experience loss, though effects vary by server and game version.
