Metin2 beginner mistakes: the early decisions that cost you time and Yang

Most of the pain in the first hours of Metin2 is not bad luck. It is a decision you made before you knew what the decision meant. Gameforge's official beginner guide lists nine of them, and they are worth reading before you put points somewhere you cannot take back.

The nine mistakes
  • Distributing status points strategically. You get up to three status points per level, handed out at 25, 50 and 75 percent experience, and each of the four values caps at 90.
  • Using skill points consciously. From level 5 you choose a discipline and unlock your class skills, then one more skill point per level after that.
  • Checking equipment regularly. New drops arrive often early on, and an upgrade you skip is damage you do not have.
  • Not selling items too hastily. Sell once you know what an item is for, not the moment it lands in your inventory.
  • Using the warehouse early. The warehouse keeper stores items and lets you move them between characters on the same account.
  • Paying attention to enhancements with failure risk. Enhancements can fail, so a careless upgrade on good gear is a real loss.
  • Distinguishing between quest types. General quests, hunt orders, mission book quests, horse quests, biologist quests and Yohara quests all behave differently.
  • Keeping biologist quests in mind long term. The biologist chain pays out permanent character improvements later, so skipping it costs you twice.
  • Not mixing later systems with your first levels. Pets, guilds, events and Yohara are all fine, but they are not where a level 10 character should spend time.
Where the first points go

The four status values are Vitality, Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity. The guide does not tell you which one to raise. It says the split depends on your class, your specialisation and how you want to play. What it does tell you is that the points arrive in three batches inside a level, so spreading them evenly is a choice rather than a default.

Classes and the level 5 decision
  • Five classes exist: Warrior, Ninja, Shaman, Sura and Lycan. Warriors and Lycans fight in melee, Ninjas pick daggers or a bow depending on the specialisation, Shamans work with magic and support, and Sura combine sword combat with spells.
  • From level 5 you choose a discipline, which unlocks your class skills. Several skill points are available at level 5, and one more per level after that.
  • Skills climb through Normal, Master, Grand Master and Perfect Master. Master needs a skill book, and soul stones become relevant for the later levels.
Quests worth keeping on your screen
  • General quests run across many level bands and mix NPCs, monsters and collection goals.
  • Hunt orders are combat quests against specific monsters, and they carry most of the early levelling.
  • Mission book quests come from mission books and add rewards on top of the standard track.
  • Horse quests unlock mobility.
  • Biologist quests start with the biologist Chaegirab, and Baek-Go appears in some steps. The chain pays permanent character improvements, so it stays relevant long after you stop thinking about it.
  • Yohara quests are their own later area with a separate structure.
Frequently asked questions
  • How many status points per level? Up to three, at 25, 50 and 75 percent experience inside the level.
  • What are the four values? Vitality, Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity, each capped at 90.
  • When do I get skills? From level 5, once you choose a discipline.
  • Can enhancements fail? Yes, which is why the guide warns against careless upgrades on valuable gear.
  • Why does a monster give almost no experience? The guide says experience depends on the gap between your level and the monster's, and a large gap cuts it significantly.
  • Where do I keep items between characters? At the warehouse keeper, which stores items and moves them between characters on the same account.
