Quick summary
  • Ward skills are the passive 7th skill. They reduce the damage of a specific enemy skill and are active all the time.
  • Boost skills are the passive 8th skill. They increase the attack power of a specific skill.
  • You pick the ward skill with a Ward Manual. You cannot pick the boost skill; it comes with the ward.
  • You need the ward skill at P before a boost skill becomes available.
  • Removing either one uses the Scroll of Fluid Training, and removing the boost also removes the ward.
Ward skills

Ward skills are a passive 7th skill. Unlike other skills except the 8th, this skill cannot be activated but is present all the time. Each player can learn one of the nine ward skills, and you may choose which. Ward skills reduce the skill damage of that particular skill:
  • Level 1: 1.2 percent resistance
  • M1: 12 percent
  • G1: 19.7 percent
  • P: 30 percent
How to raise a ward skill
  • Level 1 to M1: skill points or a Ward Skill Book.
  • M1 to G1: 55 Ward Skill Books in total.
  • G1 to P: Soul Stone+, which costs Rank points.
The ward skill can jump to M1 from skill level 17. If it does not, you can use a Book of Forgetfulness to prevent skill point loss. Only skill points invested from levels are returned, not points from reading a book. Reading the ward skill book before M1 has a significantly lower success rate than reading from M1.

Boost skills

Boost skills are a passive 8th skill. Like the 7th, this skill cannot be activated but is present all the time. Each player can learn one of the nine boost skills, and you cannot choose which. You must have the ward skill at P before you can get a boost skill. Boost skills increase the skill damage of that particular skill:
  • Level 1: 0.8 percent attack value
  • M1: 8 percent
  • G1: 13.1 percent
  • P: 20 percent
You need a Boost Manual to pick your boost skill. After activating it, it shows in the skill tab (V).

Raising a boost skill
  • Level 1 to M1: skill points or a Boost Skill Book.
  • M1 to G1: 55 Boost Skill Books in total.
  • G1 to P: Soul Stone+, which costs Rank points.
The removal rule that catches people out

If you want to remove your ward skill and take another, you must use a Scroll of Fluid Training. The wiki notes that this also removes the 8th boost skill if you have one. Removing the boost skill the same way also removes the 7th ward skill.

The wiki also advises calculating the skill points you need for your regular skills before investing them in the 7th or 8th skill, because skill points spent on these skills cannot be claimed back from M1 unless you remove the skill.
