Quick summary:
- Weapons take an element from grade +7 upward, and you choose which one.
- The Medal Keeper sells every scroll that adds or removes an element.
- You can only buy them in a guild of level 21 or higher, and you pay with Medal of Bravery.
- An element upgrades to +3 with the same scrolls, and each upgrade adds 1 to 8 percent elemental power and 2 to 12 attack value.
- At +3 the weapon has a visible shine, unless you are using weapon skins.
- A failed upgrade to +6 or lower leaves the element in place, but you cannot remove or upgrade it until +7.
The Medal Keeper sells everything related to adding or removing elements. He stands in three places: Waryong at 253, 236, Imha at 284, 240, and Jungrang at 346, 171. His shop also opens inside the guild window once your guild reaches level 21.
Two gates sit in front of the purchase. You have to be in a guild of level 21 or higher, and you pay with Medal of Bravery, which is obtainable only in guilds. If your guild is not there yet, the element is not available to you at all, no matter how much Yang you have.
Adding the element
A weapon can carry an element from grade +7 upward, and you pick which one. The element is not random and it is not tied to the weapon, so a fire scroll on a sword is a choice, not a drop.
Upgrading it to +3
Each element level uses the same elemental scrolls, and adding an upgrade can fail. Each successful upgrade raises the elemental power and the attack value:
- Elemental power goes up by 1 to 8 percent per upgrade.
- Attack value goes up by 2 to 12 per upgrade.
- At +3 that works out to a maximum of 24 percent elemental power and 36 attack value.
At +3 the weapon shows a visible shine. The shine does not appear if you are using weapon skins.
The scrolls
- Scroll of Darkness - adds Power of Darkness.
- Scroll of Earth - adds Power of Earth.
- Scroll of Fire - adds Power of Fire.
- Scroll of Ice - adds Power of Ice.
- Scroll of Lightning - adds Power of Lightning.
- Scroll of the Wind - adds Power of Wind.
- Scroll of Flux - changes the element, and you choose the new one.
- Hex Scroll - removes one level of the element, and deletes the element entirely at +1.
The failure rule that matters
When you upgrade a weapon and it fails at +6 or lower, the element and its effect stay on the weapon. You just cannot remove it or upgrade it again until the weapon reaches +7. That is the trap: a failed upgrade does not cost you the element, but it can lock you out of changing it for a while.
