- Boxes, chests and caskets are items that contain other things, and the wiki sorts them into nine groups.
- They open by right-clicking. Some need a key, and the wiki names the key for each one.
- Most are opened once, but a few can be opened more than once.
- Most come from killing mobs or bosses, some are quest rewards, and some are Item-Shop only.
The Metin2 wiki describes boxes, chests and caskets as items that contain other things, which can be experience points, Yang, normal and rare items or even monsters. They are opened by right-clicking, and some chests need a key. Most are obtained by killing mobs or bosses, some are rewards from quests, and others are available on the Item-Shop either exclusively or not. Most can be opened only once, but some can be opened more than once.
The nine categories
- Boss Chests, dropped by named bosses such as the Chief Orc, the Queen Spider and the Demon King.
- Dungeon Chests, from places like Meley's Lair, the Zodiac Temple, Balathor's Crypt and the Enigma Temple.
- Treasure Chests, which include the key-locked Yohara chests and the Iron Box, Iron Casket and Iron Chest from the Grotto of Exile.
- Miscellaneous obtainable chests, a long list that includes the level-locked Apprentice, Expert, Master and Grand Master chests.
- Event Chests.
- Item-Shop Chests and Packets.
- Other and Old Chests.
- Dragon Stone Alchemy chests.
- Merc Chests, from mercenary operations such as the Northwind Shelter.
Several chests will not open without a matching key, and the wiki names the key on each row:
- Silver Treasure Chest and Silver Treasure Chest+, opened with a silver key.
- Gold Treasure Chest and Gold Treasure Chest+, opened with a gold key.
- Kelpie Chest, opened with a Kelpie Key.
- Dong Gwang, Seo Gwang, Nam Gwang, Yilad and Platinum treasure chests, each opened with the key of the same name.
- Moonshine Chest, opened with a Moonshine Key.
- Perfect Bracelet, Perfect Earring, Perfect Necklace and Perfect Talisman chests, all opened with a Perfect Key.
The chests that open more than once
- Hydra's Chest, which the wiki says can be opened three times.
- The Apprentice Chest II through Grand Master Chest chain, which is level-locked rather than single use. Apprentice II opens at level 10, Apprentice III at 20, Expert I at 30, Expert II at 40, Expert III at 50, Master I at 60, Master II at 70, Master III at 80 and Grand Master at 90.
The wiki marks some chests as tradeable and others as not. Razador's Chest, Nemere's Chest, Bagjanamu's Chest, Jotun Thrym's Chest and Beran-Setaou's Chest all carry the note that the item is tradeable, and the Dragon Watcher Chest and Queen Meley's Chest are also tradeable. If you plan to sell a chest rather than open it, check that note on its page first.
The nested chests
Some chests contain other chests. The wiki lists Box of Wards as containing 5 Ward Book Manuals, Crate of Wards as 5 Ward Book Chests, Box of Boosts as 5 Boost Book Manuals and Crate of Boosts as 5 Boost Book Chests. The Mystery Box comes from a list of sources that includes Chrysanthemum Box, Hydra's Chest, Kelpie Chest and Serpent Treasure.
