The reading cost

The Metin2 wiki says that to read a book you need at least 20,000 experience points, and sometimes a minimum skill level as well. Nearly all skills can be improved by reading books, and each skill has its own book.

The Skill Book page adds that up to 54 different skills can be learned and that you need to read 55 skill books successfully per skill from M1 to G1. Skill Books are used to upgrade the regular class skills from M1 to G1.

To find skill books in the looking or trading glass, the wiki says you can only filter by the selected class and press search, rather than typing the skill name.

Where skill books come from
  • Monsters: Argos (Darkness), Argos (Fire), Beran-Setaou (RX), the Demon King, the En-Tai Destroyer, the En-Tai Sovereign, the Frozen War Chiefs (Ice and Lightning), King Bao, Mighty Kappa, the Northwind War Chiefs (Ice and Lightning), Ochao Executioner, Ochao General, the Quag Primus (Earth and Wind), Razador (RX) and the Tainted War Chiefs (Darkness and Earth).

  • The NPC Seon-Hae, through trading.
  • Chests, including the Anniversary Chest, the Candy, the Cool Box and the Demon Tower Reward Chest.
The cooldown

The wiki says the same book or item cannot be read repeatedly and has a cooldown between 18 and 30 hours. You can skip the cooldown with an Exorcism Scroll. When reading keeps failing, Concentrated Reading guarantees success.

Reading the cooldown from the chat
  • 18 to 30 hours left: It is a lot more complicated and more difficult to understand than I thought.
  • 12 to 18 hours: I keep reading the same line over and over again.
  • 8 to 12 hours: Now I understand it!
  • 4 to 8 hours: Only a few more pages and then I'll have read everything.
  • 2 to 3 hours: Nearly finished! Just a little bit more to go!
  • 1 to 2 hours: I am on the last page of the book.
  • 10 to 30 minutes: Yes, that feels great. My body is full of Chi.
  • 5 minutes or less: I am burning inside, but it is calming down my body.
