What Shiva Metin2 actually is
Shiva describes itself as an oldschool server that recreates the 2006 to 2010 Metin2 era, with modern quality-of-life additions layered on top so it does not feel like a museum piece. That means the classic three kingdoms (Shinsoo, Chunjo, Jinno), the classic eight classes, familiar dungeons like Devil's Catacomb and the Spider Dungeon, guild wars, and seasonal events. On top of that they run offline shops, which the original era never had, and a few other conveniences that remove the worst grind friction without changing the core game.
The server has been online since June 2022, and the important part is that the economy has never been reset in that time. If you have played private servers for a while, you know how rare that is. Most projects wipe or quietly die within a year. Four years of continuous economy is a genuine selling point and it shows in the numbers: when I checked the site on 2026-07-15 it was live and displaying 282,334 accounts, 339,856 created characters, 1,265 guilds and over 21,000 active offline shops, with 4,840 players online at that moment.
The headline claims, and how much to trust them
The official site makes a set of claims that you will also see repeated on 2026 toplists:
- 5,000+ concurrent players daily and 260,000+ registered accounts
- Zero pay-to-win, with the shop limited to cosmetics
- A proprietary anti-cheat called CShield that targets bots, speed hacks, damage hacks and item manipulation
- 99.9% uptime on European infrastructure
- Weekly content updates driven by player feedback
- Support responses in under 2 hours
- Full support for 13 languages: German, English, Turkish, Romanian, Polish, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Czech, Russian and Arabic
The zero pay-to-win claim is harder to judge from the outside. Every server says this. The only real test is playing for a few weeks and watching whether shop items leak into player power. If anyone here has months on Shiva, this is exactly the kind of thing I would love to hear about in the replies.
Style, cap and pace: who this server is for
The level cap is 99, which you can confirm just by looking at the top of the player rankings on the site. Combined with the oldschool positioning, that tells you a lot about the intended pace. This is not a server where you hit max level in a weekend. Expect classic-style progression, metin farming, dungeon runs and an economy where yang and items actually hold value because nothing gets wiped.
If you started Metin2 back on the official servers around 2007 to 2010, the whole design is aimed squarely at you. If you prefer modern custom servers with huge caps, custom classes and instant gratification, Shiva will probably feel slow. Neither is wrong, they are just different games at this point.
The 13-language support matters more than it sounds. Metin2's community is heavily split across German, Turkish, Romanian and Polish speaking playerbases, and a server that handles all of them under one roof tends to concentrate the population instead of fragmenting it across regional clones. That is likely a big part of why the player numbers are what they are.
Practical advice before you join
- Register only through the official site at shiva.international. Popular servers attract phishing clones, so check the domain carefully.
- Read the current rules and rates on the official site before investing time. Details like drop rates and event schedules change with the weekly updates, and anything I write here can go stale.
- Join as a fresh player with realistic expectations. A four-year-old economy means established players have a big head start. That is normal for no-wipe servers, and the flip side is that your own progress is permanent too.
- Test the anti-cheat claim yourself by watching farming spots. Bot density is something you can observe within your first few hours and it tells you how seriously CShield actually works in practice.
Is Shiva Metin2 free to play?
Yes. It is a free private server. There is an item shop, but according to the official site it is limited to cosmetics with zero pay-to-win. As always, verify that yourself in game, since shop contents can change over time.
What is the level cap on Shiva Metin2?
The cap is 99, visible in the official player rankings. It fits the oldschool 2006 to 2010 design the server is built around.
How many people actually play on Shiva?
The site claims 5,000+ concurrent players daily and showed 4,840 online when I checked on 2026-07-15, alongside 282,334 registered accounts. Log in during a European evening and judge the crowds for yourself, that is the most reliable check there is.
Has the server ever wiped or reset the economy?
No. It has run continuously since June 2022 with no economy reset, which is one of the strongest arguments for investing time in it.
That is my overview based on what I could verify today. I am deliberately not calling this a review, because the things that make or break a server long term, like GM behavior, event quality and how honest the shop really is, only show up after weeks of playing. So if you play on Shiva or you quit it, post below and tell the rest of us why. Questions welcome too, I will answer what I can.
