Metin2 Skill System: How Skills, Skill Books, and Resets Work
The skill system is the heart of every Metin2 character. Your choice of skills determines your playstyle, damage output, and survivability. This guide covers how skill points work, how to use skill books, and how to reset your build if you make a mistake.

[h]Getting skill points[/h]

You receive skill points starting at Level 5. The quest called "Training" gives you your first 4 points all at once and locks in your class path. From Level 6 onwards, you gain exactly 1 point per level.

Each of the five classes has two paths with six skills each. Your choice at Level 5 shapes your entire playstyle. The Warrior, for example, can choose Body Warrior (offensive, mobility-focused) or Mind Warrior (defensive, area control).

[h]Using skills[/h]

Once you have allocated at least one point to a skill, you can use it actively. Drag the skill to your quickslot bar and activate it with keys 1-4 or F1-F4. You can also right-click the skill directly in the skills window or assign it to your mouse buttons.

Each skill costs mana points when used. The cost varies by skill and its current level. After use, the skill recharges. Cooldown times differ from skill to skill. The higher the skill level, the stronger the effect and the more mana it costs.

[h]Skill books[/h]

Skill books are the second way to improve your skills. They advance your skill level beyond what skill points alone can achieve.

Key points about skill books:
  • You can read all skill books in parallel on a 24-hour cycle
  • To read a book, you need at least 20,000 experience points
  • To skip the 24-hour cooldown, use an Exorcism Scroll
  • Reading books daily significantly accelerates skill leveling
The main book types are:
  • Skill Book: Increases Master Skill Level (M1 to G1)
  • Manual: Masters a specific skill (disappears after reading)
  • Soul Stone: Increases Grand Master skills (G1 to P)
  • Book of Forgetfulness: Removes 1 skill point so you can reallocate it
  • 9th Skill Book: Teaches the secrets of the 9th skill
[h]Counter and boost skills[/h]

Once you master a base skill, you unlock its counter skill. After mastering the counter skill, you can choose a matching boost skill. These significantly strengthen your character in specific situations. Plan your build so you unlock boost skills when you need them most.

[h]Resetting skills[/h]

If you misallocate your points or want to switch paths, you can reset your skills with the Old Woman in-game. This is only possible up to and including Level 30.

The cost formula is:

Code: Select all

20,000 Yang + (Level - 5) * 2,000 Yang
  • Level 5: 20,000 Yang
  • Level 10: 30,000 Yang
  • Level 20: 50,000 Yang
  • Level 30: 70,000 Yang
When you reset, you get all regularly allocated points back. However, you lose points earned from reaching Mastery levels (M2 to M10) and Grandmaster level. The earlier you reset, the cheaper it is.

[h]The 17-point rule[/h]

Never allocate more than 17 skill points to a single skill before it jumps to the next tier. This is called "overbuild" or "misallocation." If a skill does not advance at 17 points, visit the Old Woman again immediately. She can retry without costing you an extra point.

[h]Practical tips[/h]
  • Choose your path early. Research which playstyle suits you before Level 5.
  • Assign frequently used skills to 1-4 or F1-F4 for quick access in combat.
  • Read skill books every day. The 24-hour cooldown runs automatically.
  • Only reset when necessary. Plan your build to avoid losing Mastery-level points.
  • Unlock counter skills before boost skills.
