Metin2 has two pet systems that look similar and behave very differently. One is built for long-term progression, the other is a short-term bonus you switch on when you need it. Mixing them up leads to wasted Yang and dead pets, so this covers both, how to hatch and level a System Pet, and when skills become available.
The two systems
- System Pets hatch from eggs, gain experience, have a lifespan, pet types, and can learn skills
- Normal pets are summoned from a pet seal and give a fixed bonus for a set duration
Getting a System Pet
- Obtain a pet egg.
- Place it in the incubation basket and incubate it. Incubation costs 100,000 Yang.
- Give the pet a name while it incubates. Names must be 4 to 20 characters.
- Wait for the outcome. The maximum lifespan and the number of skill slots are set during incubation, and the slots decide how many skills the pet can ever learn.
Leveling a System Pet
A System Pet gains two kinds of experience:
- Normal experience, 90 percent. Shown as four red orbs, collected by defeating monsters while the pet is summoned. This is not taken from your character's experience.
- Item experience, 10 percent. Shown as a blue orb, collected by feeding equipment. Two Yang equals one experience point.
Lifespan, feeding, and death
Every System Pet gets a random maximum lifespan at incubation, and it runs in real time whether you play or not. You top it up by feeding other pets, pet eggs, or a Protein Snack. When the lifespan hits zero, the pet dies.
A dead pet comes back with a Protein Snack or a Divine Protein Snack. A Protein Snack resets the pet's age. A Divine Protein Snack revives it at 80 percent of its original age, and you need one Divine Protein Snack per 10 days of age.
Evolution stages
- Young: level 1 to 40
- Wild: from level 40
- Brave: from level 80 or 81
- Heroic / Hero Training: from brave level 81 and up
- Awakened: Champion range
- Powerful: a higher development stage in Champion range
Pet types and stats
There are eight pet types, and type 1 is the weakest while type 8 is the strongest. System Pets give percentage bonuses to HP, Defence, and MP. The starting values are set at incubation and improve with level depending on the pet type.
You can see the pet type with a Pet Identification Orb. Pet Enchantment can change the pet type, which recalculates HP, Defence, and MP. The skill slots only change if the pet has not learned a skill yet.
Age also affects stat development. Older pets can get an extra improvement, but the increase is capped and stops at 800 days.
Skills
System Pets learn skills from the Heroic stage onwards, limited by the skill slots set at incubation. Passive skills are always on and show a buff symbol. Active skills trigger in certain situations and have a cooldown.
A skill can be trained up to 19 times, and each training level costs 2,000,000 Yang. Pet Reverti or Pet Revertus resets skills. Skill books come from the Pet Book Chest, which contains a random book.
Normal pets
Normal pets are the simpler option. You summon them from a seal, they give a fixed bonus for a duration, and they are not leveled or developed through pet types.
They cover a wide range of uses:
- Attack and combat: magic or melee attack, often combined with HP
- Critical or piercing hits
- Auto loot: Bruce, Wayne, Robin, and Bonsai (Loot) pick items up for you
- Leveling and farming: EXP bonus, strong against monsters, or extra drop effects
- Elemental bonuses: resistance or elemental power
- Event and set bonuses
Which one to pick
Go for a System Pet if you plan to play for months and want something to build. Go for a normal pet if you need a specific bonus this week, such as auto loot or an EXP boost, and do not want to maintain a lifespan.
