Metin2 party experience: the group bonus, the relative EXP table, and how experience is split

Grouping up in Metin2 does two separate things to your experience. It adds a party bonus on top of the base amount, and it changes how that amount is divided between the members. Both are decided by the group leader, and neither is obvious from the interface.

Quick summary:
 • A group holds up to 8 players, and no member can be more than 30 levels from the leader.
 • Your share depends on the relative EXP of the monster, which comes from the level difference.
 • The leader picks between Even and Level Dependant distribution.
 • Group search only looks within a 30 level range.
Relative EXP

Every monster pays a base amount of experience, which you receive when your level matches the monster's. The percentage changes with the level difference.

Monster level vs yoursExperience

+15 or higher130%

+10120%

+5110%

+1102%

0100%

-1100%

-592%

-785%

-1050%

-1220%

-1310%

-145%

-15 or lower1%

The full table runs from +15 at 130 percent down to -15 at 1 percent, in two point steps. Two details matter. The bonus is capped at 20 percent of the experience you need for the level, so a level 10 character beating a level 100 monster still gains at most 20 percent of what it needs. And you always receive some experience regardless of the difference, even when the number rounds down to something you barely notice.

The group bonus

On top of the relative EXP, the party adds its own bonus. The wiki's worked example uses a three member party and an 18 percent bonus, which turns a base of 10,416 into 12,290, and divides to 4,096 per player. A two member party in the same example gets 12 percent.

How experience is split

The group leader chooses between two modes.

Even distribution gives every member the same amount regardless of level. If one member uses an experience boosting item, only that member receives the extra.

Level Dependant distribution splits the pool by level. The formula is:

Code: Select all

Character level / (Number of all character levels counted together / 100)
With levels 38, 49 and 76 the total is 163. Level 38 gets 38 / 1.63 = 23.31 percent, level 49 gets 30.06 percent, and level 76 gets 46.63 percent.

Group search

The group search tool finds a party for you, and it has conditions. You must be outside a dungeon and meet the level requirement, and if the dungeon needs an entry item you must have it in your inventory. It searches within a 30 level range. Once 8 players are available the group is created, and the leader is picked by highest Leadership skill, then highest player level, then longest in the queue.

FAQ

Q: Can I invite someone 40 levels below me?
A: No. Every member must be within 30 levels of the group leader.

Q: Which distribution mode should I use?
A: Even when everyone is a similar level. Level Dependant when you are carrying a much lower level friend, since the higher levels take the larger share.

Q: Does the party bonus stack with an experience ring?
A: Yes. The wiki lists the experience items separately under influencing factors, and the effects stack. Only the player wearing the ring receives the ring's bonus.

Q: Does the relative EXP bonus apply to the whole party?
A: No. It is calculated per player. Two members at different levels get different percentages from the same monster.
