Metin2 Alternative Drop: the three tiers, the level gap rule, and the per-level item list
Quick summary

Alternative Drop is Metin2's secondary loot channel. Every opponent can drop it, no matter which one you kill, and it splits into two types that differ only in whether a level gate applies. The rule that matters in practice is the level gap: kill something more than ten levels below you and you very rarely see one. This post lays out the tiers, the gap rule, and the per-level item lists, then covers where the English and German wiki pages disagree.

The two types

The English wiki page states that Alternative Drop can be obtained from every opponent, that it does not matter which opponent you kill, and that it splits into two types.
  • Alternative Drop 2 is a drop you can only get from a certain level. The page's example is the Blessing Scroll, which is only available once you reach level 50 or more. It still comes from all opponents, but only above that level.
  • Alternative Drop 3 is a drop you can get from every opponent regardless of level. The page's example is Yang, which comes from all opponents.
The level gap rule

The English page says: "If a player has reached level 10 or more above the level of the monster that he kills, the result is that he very rarely gets Alternatively drop." Its worked example uses level 1 Wild Dogs. Player X at level 1 kills a level 1 Wild Dog and receives Yang. Player Y at level 11 kills the same Wild Dog and receives no Yang, because he is 10 levels over it.

The German page prints the same rule with a plus or minus sign in front of the ten: a player who is "plus minus 10 Level oder mehr" above the monster level rarely gets one. The English page has no plus or minus. That is the clearest place the two pages disagree, and the German wording is the wider one.

The per-level item list

The English page lists Alternative Drop 2 items by the level they start dropping at:
  • Hay, from level 25
  • Carrot, from level 35
  • Purple Potion (L), from level 36
  • Red Ginseng, from level 50, with an exception: the Demon Tower drops it from level 40
  • Blessing Scroll, from level 50
  • Empty Bottle, from level 75 in the Grotto of Exile and Grotto of Exile V2
  • Rotten Wooden Box, from level 75 in the Grotto of Exile and Grotto of Exile V2
  • Iron Box, from level 75 in the Grotto of Exile and Grotto of Exile V2
  • All 65er weapons +4 to +6, from level 75
  • All 61er armor, from level 75
  • Dragon Stone Shard, from monsters from level 30
  • Clam, from level 75 in the Grotto of Exile and Grotto of Exile V2, and from level 86 in the Red Wood
  • Black Steel Armour, Magic Plate Armour, Black Clothing and Black Wind Suit, from level 86 in the Red Wood
  • Heaven's Tear Bracelet, Heaven's Tear Necklace and Heaven's Tear Earrings +4 to +6, from level 86 in the Red Wood
  • Mission Books Lord 1, Lord 2 and Lord 3, from level 80
Alternative Drop 3 on the same page covers potions, books, event drops and two catch-all items. Potions are Blue Potion S, M and L, Red Potion S, M and L, and Purple Potion M. The page notes Red Potion S only goes up to about level 20 and Purple Potion M up to about level 35. Books are the polymorph, combo and art of war manuals: Advanced Polymorph Book, Art of Combo, Combo Master Book, Combo Mastery, Horse Riding Manual, Horse Taming Manual, Master Polymorph Book, Mining Guide, Polymorph Book, Sun Zi Art of War, WeiLiao Zi Art of War and Wu zi Art of War. The catch-all entries are Yang and Zen Bean.

Event drops

The English page lists these under event drops: Bread at the Summer Event, Candy, Chocolate, Easter Egg at Easter, Football during the Football Event, Halloween Pumpkin at Halloween from 2011, Hexagonal Treasure Chest, Moonlight Treasure Chest, Mysterious Ruby Box, Okey Collectable Card at Christmas 2015, Pumpkin at Halloween until 2010, Rose in red and yellow, Sock new at Christmas from 2011, and Sock old at Christmas until 2010.

Two of those entries are red links on the wiki itself: Easter Egg and both Sock pages carry the wiki's "page does not exist" marker.

Where the two wiki pages disagree
  • The level gap. English says level 10 or more above. German says plus minus 10 or more above. The German wording allows a gap in either direction.
  • The level 86 armor. English names the four pieces: Black Steel Armour, Magic Plate Armour, Black Clothing and Black Wind Suit. German uses the category label "66er Rüstungen", which is level 66 armor, and gives no piece names.
  • Empty Bottle and Clam. English adds Grotto of Exile V2 as a source. German lists only the Grotto of Exile for both.
  • Dragon Stone Shard. English says monsters from level 30. German says monsters from level 30 with the active quest Macht des Drachenauges, and adds a second entry, Dragon Stone Shard+, from monsters from level 110 in the ZR areas with the active quest Drachensteinsplitter+.
  • Halloween items. English has Halloween Pumpkin from 2011 and Pumpkin until 2010. German splits them by year: Kürbis at Halloween 2008 to 2010, Halloween-Kürbis at Halloween 2011 to 2014, and Kürbislaterne at Halloween 2015.
  • Duplicate and missing entries. German lists Sechseckige Schatztruhe, the Hexagonal Treasure Chest, twice in its event drop list. English has Easter Egg and the two Sock pages as nonexistent pages, while German has Osterei for Easter and a single Socke entry.
  • Edit dates. The English page was last edited on 9 March 2025. The German page was last edited on 25 June 2024, so the English page is the newer of the two.
FAQ

Does the monster type matter? No. The English page says it does not matter which opponent you kill.

Can I farm a low level monster for Alternative Drop 3? Only if you are within the level gap. Player Y at level 11 farming level 1 Wild Dogs gets no Yang, per the page's own example.

Is the level gap a hard cutoff? No. The page says you very rarely get the drop, not that you cannot.

Which page should I trust for the level 86 armor? The English page names the four pieces. The German page gives the category label and no names. I would use the English list for names and the German page for the extra Dragon Stone Shard+ entry, since the English page has no such entry.

Why does the German page have a question mark in a table row? Its Dragon Stone Shard+ row reads "mit aktiver Quest Drachensteinsplitter+?!" with the question mark and exclamation mark in the wiki text itself. Treat that row as uncertain.
